|Dr Karal Venugopal Nair, 71, passed away early morning on 12th October 2012. He died of pneumonia as a complication of Parkinson’s disease, which he had suffered for a number of years.
He graduated from Calicut Medical College. He was one of the founder members of Calicut Medical UK association and the first President of the association.
The fourth of eleven children, Venu was born in Kuthupurumba, Kannur and spent his childhood in Neeleshwaram, where his father was the headmaster of Raja’s high school.Venu had worked for many years as a Consultant Radiologist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. After Calicut Medical School, he served as a captain in the Indian Army in the medical corps, before moving to UK to complete his medical training. In the UK, he switched specialities from Geriatrics to Radiology, working in Birmingham and Newcastle before settling in Sheffield.
He was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife, Saroj and their children, Savitha and Vikas.
