Allowing a South Indian Actress inside the cockpit leads to suspension of 2 Air India Pilots.

Two Pilots from Air India have been suspended for allowing Kannada actress Nithya Menon to sit inside the cockpit, mid-air on a Bangalore-Hyderabad flight.

The pilots, Jagan M Reddy and S Kiran allowed Nithya into the cockpit, last month, thereby violating the Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) guidelines. “Both pilots have been suspended and taken off the roster. An enquiry is going on, “airline officials said.

A Government officer who was travelling in the same flight had reported the incident to Air India Authorities. In his complaint, he said that the actress was allowed into the cockpit when the plane was mid-air. She had occupied the observer’s seat during the flight, which is reserved for examiners and observers authorized by DGCA.

Although the South Indian actress’s manager denied that she travelled from Bangalore-Hyderabad in the last three months, the reports say that she did go for a shoot.

The cockpit entry by a passenger is completely prohibited since the 9/11 terror strike.

With several such incidents in the past few months, the regulator is considering imposing harsher penalties on the cockpit crew. In May, in a flight from Delhi to Bangalore in n Air India flight, the pilot got locked out of the cockpit as the door got jammed. Hence the co-pilot made an emergency landing in Bhopal. In April, One of the two pilots had taken a long break and this led to two stewardesses being in the cockpit for nearly 45 minutes.
