Panjabi Hit Squad
Their services to the UK club scene were recognised in 2005 when they were nominated for the prestigious MOBO award for Best UK Club DJ, not to mention multiple nominations and accolades within the urban music scene. Huge names, such as Damian Marley, Jay Sean, Calvin Harris, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Tinie Tempah have been some of the big names they have performed alongside.
Through the 2000’s they were signed to Hip hop powerhouse Def Jam and have produced remixes for Mariah Carey, Ashanti, Bobby Valentino, Christina Milian and Beanie Man. Rapper Jay Z sampled their hit ‘Hai Hai’ on a his underground track ‘Higher’ which caused the urban music scene to take note of the Hit Squad and their signature sound – this track was also championed the late Sir John Peel.
Raj & Pablo
During a glamorous Bollywood themed month at Selfridges in 2002, when the entire UK was abuzz with AR Rahman’s Bombay Dreams, the “Raj & Pablo – the Bollywood IT Boys” tagline caught onto mainstream UK pop culture, where they are often referred to as ‘Bollywood’s answer to Ant & Dec’.
Raj Dhanda and Pablo Sat-Bhambra were both actors when they met for the first time performing in a play in 1991. Enjoying the escapism and beauty of the on screen stars, they have created a brand that is intrinsically Bollywood. In 1998, Raj & Pablo went on to launch their first compilation album “Bollywood Nights” which received fantastic reviews from the public and media luminaries such as Vogue and Tatler.
Raj & Pablo’s “Love Bollywood” album with BBC Worldwide, BBC Asian Network and EMI records was a Bollywood compilation album that made history, when it debuted at Number 1 on both the iTunes worldwide chart and world compilations chart.
