Big Hug Foundation

Big Hug Foundation is a U.K. registered charity dedicated to providing shelter and education for underprivileged children in India. Its also Vodafone World of Difference Winner 2012.

The Big Hug Foundation began in 2011 after our founding trustee volunteered at an orphanage in south India for 3 months, where she re-homed 26 orphan street children who were living in an unhygienic, cramped warehouse with no facilities into a new, fully functioning rented home. After spending time with the children and hearing about their childhood hardships she was inspired to continue supporting them after she returned to the UK. The charity was officially registered in the UK in October 2011 and since then has continued to fund the monthly rent at the children’s home as well as the children’s educational materials, uniforms and school fees. Funding is mostly raised through community events held in London and donations from my family and friends.

In India, the orphanage is run by the Cornerstone Trust, and at the home the children are taken care of by a housemother and her family who are all volunteers and do not take a salary.

The aim of the Big Hug Foundation was to set up a charity where donors are confident that their hard earned money is going towards the cause they are supporting. As the charity is run voluntarily this ensures that the administrative costs are kept to a minimum; in the last financial year (2011-2012) “The Big Hug Foundation” spent 99.6% of all donations on the children’s needs in India.

This year, the Big Hug Foundation is fundraising to build a permanent home for the children as the current rented property’s lease ends in 2014; the target “Big Hug” need to reach to build a home for 50 children is £60,000 and this month “Big Hug” have passed the half-way mark. We need to start building in September so in these last few months we need as much support as “Big Hug Charity” can get.

The Founder & Trustee of Big Hug Foundation is Natasha Mansigani. Registered Charity No: 1144159 and she can be contacted on Mobile: 07595759359 and their website is http://www.bighugfoundation.org
