Exhibition: Living Traditions – An Indian Art Exhibition
A project by Neha Jaiswal, María García and Marta Pereira

The diversity of India’s cultural heritage has led to a variety of art forms and expressions, often showcasing similar themes ranging  from mythological stories to portrayal of everyday life. Encouraged by the increasing interest of art lovers and collectors in  traditional forms of Indian art, Living Traditions presents fine artworks carefully selected from eastern and western regions of India.  Many of these works have never before been seen outside India.

Our aim is to showcase varied and vibrant styles that continue to be produced in the country today portraying traditional and contemporary themes. These include Paattachitra, Pitchwais, 7 Madhubani, Contemporary Miniatures and Sandalwood Carvings. The  artworks have been created by master painters and craftsmen including Vinod Gangid, Bharti Dayal, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Shanti  Devi, Asha Ram Meghwal and Raja Ram Sharma. These artists command respect amongst their peers and have received various  national awards for their accomplishments in their respective fields.

Other activities:
Each day of the exhibition will count with the presence of one or more of the artists, brought from India, who will, in a scheduled time,  be talking about their work, and available for conversation. In addition, guided tours will be arranged for special guests.
