Indian High Commissioner inaugurates MAUK’s Kerala House Celebration all through the weekend

Kerala House, owned by Britain’s first and one of the leading Community organisations, the Malayalee Association of the UK (MAUK), based in East Ham has been reopened, after about six months of renovation work, with an impressive function hall capable to accommodate around 125 people on the ground floor, together with office spaces and committee rooms on the first floor.

The reopening ceremony was performed by Mr Ranjan Mathai, the High Commissioner of India, London, at a function held on 9th July. Officers from the High Commission, Mr M P Singh, First Secretary (Protocol) and Mr Pritham Lal, First Secretary (Co-ordination) also attended the event.

The opening event was graced by the participation of music legend Padma Shree KS Chitra. Chitra addressed the audience, congratulated the organisers of the Malayalee Association and sang a special song to mark the occasion. The public meeting was followed by cultural programmes.

The celebrations will continue on 14th and 15th June. On 14h June, Mr Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, will be the chief guest. This day will mainly showcase the rich cultural heritage of India and opens a wonderful opportunity to enjoy excelling multicultural traditional and modern performances by a diverse range of superb artists. The day will conclude with a DJ and dance floor.

All MAUK supporters are welcome to come and enjoy this event, however, admission may be restricted at times to prevent overcrowding. The third day, Sunday 15 June 2014, will focus on babies, children, and young people’s activities, including for babies and children. There will also be taster sessions of MAUK classes.
