The tournament was officially inaugurated by Councillor Tom Prabin Aditya, the President of the Kerala Association. He said that Badminton as game was started by the local Duke of Beaufort (who owned most lands in Bradley Stoke earlier) at the nearby Badminton House in 1873 taking inspirations from Duke’s experience at Poona in India. He commented that due to its Indian origins, Indians should have a natural instinct to play badminton. He added that badminton is now one of the most played sports in the world. Councillor Tom Aditya appealed all the participants to take full advantage of the tournament. He stated “This is an appropriate platform for the players to enhance their skills, whatever challenges, and hindrances comes forth needs to be solved to get the output”. He pointed out that much has to be done in the future to enable the talented players to be provided opportunities to participate at the county level and national level competitions.
