Legendary Telugu actor Nageswara Rao passes away
Dada Saheb Phalke award winner, Akkineni Nageswara Rao who was fighting intestinal cancer passed away at 2.12 am IST this morning, at a private hospital in Hyderabad . He was 91.
The legendary actor died in his sleep, his actor son Nagarjuna said. Rao is survived by three daughters and two sons.
Nageswara Rao was born on 20th September 1923 and made his debut with Dharmapatni in 1941. There was no looking back for the actor since then. He acted in 256 films including Devadasu, Laila Majnu, Anarkali,Premabhishekham, Prema Nagar and Megha Sandesham to name a few.

Rao won three Filmfare Best Telugu Actor Awards during his acting career. He was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, for his contribution to Indian cinema, and is a recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest individual lifetime achievement award for films in India.
Soon as news of his demise spread, there was a steady stream of people from the Telugu film industry and other fields of society, to his house in Jubilee Hills. The body will be taken to Annapurna studios owned by the family to enable his fans and film personalities to pay their last tributes.
Nageswara Rao wrapped up his work with ‘Manam’ that saw three generations of the Akkineni family including himself, actor Nagarjuna and grandson Naga Chaitanya in it.
His death marks the end of another glorious, unforgettable chapter in Telugu cinema, an industry that makes the second largest number of films, next only to Bollywood.
