Tami Nadu merchant pays homage to Morgan Freeman instead of Mandela!
Little did a merchant from Tamil Nadu realise that he would attract International attention- and that too for the wrong reason, when he installed a billboard of the anti-apartheid hero, the late Nelson Mandela.
It was a major goof up ,for his billboard carrying the image of Hollywood star Morgan Freeman- who had portrayed the iconic African National Congress leader in the biopic, ‘Invictus,’ directed by Clint Eastwood in 2009.
South Indian merchant pays homage to Morgan Freeman instead of Mandela!
Chandrasekar, a merchant from Tirupur- a textile city located closely to Coimbatore, installed a billboard to pay homage to the late South African President Nelson Mandela likening him to last century’s greatest icons — Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther King Junior.
Unfortunately, to the textile merchant, who is the owner of Surya Silk Readymade and Textiles outlet on Tirupur Udumalai Main Road that the ‘Mandela’ who towered on the digital flex banner was actually a film actor!
The message is written in Tamil which reads: On December 5, 2013 Mandela joined the likes of Teresa, Gandhi and Martin Luther King, all of whom had thought about the future generations unlike the politicians who keep thinking about tomorrow’s elections. Let us pay homage in honour of their pride, dedication and ahimsa.”
This goof-up remain unnoticed until a Twitter user’Che’ spotted the mistake. Shortly, the tweet went viral with multiple re-tweets prompting journalists, including those from international news agencies, to call Chandrasekar. The harried man promised to pull down the billboard and switched off his mobile phone — the number for which was given on the banner.
